8 Teams Chase an $800,000 Top Prize as CDL Championship Opens in Las Vegas

The CDL Championship, known as Champs, started July 16 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. Faze Vegas is hosting the event that closes out the Black Ops 7 season. Eight teams made the cut through a double elimination bracket that runs through July 19, with the prize pool near $2 million and roughly $800,000 going to first place.

Getting there took months. The season started in December 2025 and moved through four stages of qualifiers, minor events, and majors. Every team enters the Winners Bracket first, and one loss sends a team to the Losers side, where a second loss ends the run. That format punishes any slow start.

Paris Gentle Mates struck first. The French organization swept Toronto KOI 2-0 in the opening Winners Bracket match of the day, sending Toronto to the Losers Bracket a day ahead of schedule. Paris carries momentum from a Major 1 title into the rest of the bracket, while Toronto now has to win out just to survive.

Three matches are lined up for the Day 1 schedule. LA Thieves face Riyadh Falcons around 4:30 p.m. ET. Faze Vegas takes on G2 Minnesota around 6 p.m. ET. Optic Texas will close the night against Miami Heretics around 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Numbers Behind the Bracket

Optic Texas earned the top seed with a 40-12 regular season record and 575 points. LA Thieves finished second with 500 points, followed by Faze Vegas at 440, Paris Gentle Mates at 380, Toronto KOI at 290, G2 Minnesota at 250, Riyadh Falcons at 240, and Miami Heretics at 235.

Prediction markets tracking the event put Optic Texas at 84% to beat Miami Heretics, with the market seeing $57,500 in trading volume on Polymarket. LA Thieves sat at 93% against Riyadh Falcons, and Faze Vegas held 72% against G2 Minnesota across a market with more than $36,000 in volume. Traders priced Paris Gentle Mates near 100% to beat Toronto KOI before the match started, a call that held up once the series ended 2-0.

Storylines Feeding the Bracket

Riyadh Falcons walked into Champs after swapping two players ahead of the event, a late change that adds risk against a Thieves roster that has stayed consistent through the season. G2 Minnesota entered the bracket playing its best Call of Duty of the year, a run that puts pressure on Faze Vegas despite the home crowd behind them in Las Vegas.

Miami Heretics have given Optic Texas trouble in past meetings, even with a .500 record heading into Champs, and that history keeps the matchup live regardless of what the seeding says. Paris Gentle Mates and Toronto KOI carried extra tension into their match, tied to a roster move made earlier in the year involving player JoeDeceives. Paris settled that score on the scoreboard.

What Comes Next

Every match through the quarterfinal round is best of five. The Grand Final on July 19 runs best of nine, a longer format built for a true champion. Toronto KOI starts its Losers Bracket run on July 17, the first test of whether the team can climb back through a stacked field.

Optic Texas and LA Thieves remain the favorites to meet again in the later rounds after their Major 4 final went to a decider. Paris Gentle Mates joins them as a team with no losses yet on the board.
