    Key Takeaways

    • Hyperliquid Strategies has bought 3.029M HYPE for about $252 million over the past two weeks.
    • HYPE is trading near $80 today, below the roughly $83.40 average the firm paid.
    • A $2.5 billion Chardan equity facility, expanded Sept. 1, keeps the buying capacity open.

A Look at The Wallet’s Movements

An address attributed to Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (Nasdaq: PURR) accumulated and staked 365,000 HYPE, worth roughly $29.65 million, over a single 24-hour stretch.

By zooming out over 14 days, one can see a larger scheme emerge, one where the company has bought and staked 3.029 million HYPE, about $252 million, at an average price near $83.40. The company’s own disclosure puts total holdings at 31.8 million HYPE.

That stack was worth about $2.513 billion when disclosed, but with HYPE changing hands near $79.99 earlier today (down 5.78% on the day), the recent tranche is roughly 5% below water.

The aforementioned math is the tension that almost all digital asset treasuries (DAT) face today. In this case, buying aggressively into strength lifts the average cost basis, and Hyperliquid Strategies paid about $83.40 across its most recent $252 million of accumulation. The token is now below that, and on the last two weeks of buying alone, the position is showing an unrealized loss of roughly $12 million.

    Where the Money Comes From

Hyperliquid Strategies’ buying has been funded, not improvised. To elaborate, earlier this month, the company filed a Form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) expanding a committed equity purchase facility with Chardan Capital Markets LLC from $1.0 billion to $2.5 billion. It closed June 30 with more than $2.0 billion in assets, no debt and roughly $150 million in cash and cash-like instruments.

The treasury is not idle, either. In May, Hyperliquid Strategies launched a validator alongside Unit Labs, operated as Hyperliquid Strategies x Unit, with the bulk of the initial stake delegated from treasury HYPE custodied at Anchorage Digital Bank.

Institutional money has followed as well, with Stanley Druckenmiller building a position of 2.9 million PURR shares valued around $23.1 million, part of an $88 million bet placed across Bitdeer and Hyperliquid Strategies.

What to Watch From Here on out

Three things will decide whether this move ages well or not:

    • The token’s own buyback engine: Hyperliquid routes close to 99% of the fees generated by its perpetual futures and spot markets into the ‘Assistance Fund’, which buys HYPE on the open market. That is a structural bid independent of anything the treasury company does, and it has already absorbed $1.16 billion in buybacks during 2026.
    • Premium: If PURR’s share price drops below the value of the HYPE it holds, further issuance dilutes existing holders rather than growing HYPE per share.
    • Broader Tape: Crypto markets shed $562 million in liquidations on Sept. 10 after a hot U.S. producer price index (PPI) print, and HYPE’s 5.78% daily slide is part of that risk-off move rather than anything specific to the company.

Where bitcoin’s price goes over the next few sessions will likely set the direction for a token that has spent the year trading as a high-beta proxy for the whole market.
